The Development of Parent-Child Interactions in the Digital Era and Their Relationship Across Adolescence
Abstract
Grounded in interdisciplinary theories in family and media studies, the aim of this study is threefold: (1) explore developmental trajectories of offline and digital models of parent-child interactions; (2) explore developmental trajectories of the quality of the parent-child relationship; (3) explore the overlap between the developmental trajectories of the first and second aim. Specifically, we investigate two key interaction dimensions (i.e., communication and joint activities) to capture the multifaceted nature of contemporary family interactions. Moreover, in combination with incorporating both parent and adolescent perspectives, the present study examines whether parent and child reports of interactional and relational quality align and reflect similar associations.
