Abstract

Despite the significant role that diversity characteristics play in numerous international studies, data from german speaking countries has been lacking until now. In particular, there is no comprehensive information on how diversity characteristics are taken into account in the care of patients with a migration background and their informal caregivers in existential medical situations. The study therefore aims to close this gap and provide initial insights into this phenomenon. The aims of this study are: 1. To capture the experiences of patients, their informal caregivers and healthcare professionals in existential medical situations and to reconstruct key characteristics of care while considering multiple dimensions of diversity. 2. To compare the experiences of those affected (patients and their informal garegivers) from different cultural backgrounds with the perceptions of the treatment team to identify discrepancies and similarities. 3. To compare the findings across both hospitals with the aim of reconstructing care practices in existential medical situations and subsequently to develop a survey for the following quantitative study.
