Abstract

This companion note documents a small but operational artifact that turns “regulation” for agentic systems into something testable: a replayable CI gate for evaluating agent outputs in verifier-free domains (research, synthesis, planning, strategy). In these settings, correctness cannot be reliably checked on demand; the dominant failure mode becomes cascades—premature commits, prompt injection following, and over-compression that erases falsifiers. The replay suite is designed to enforce commit discipline and uncertainty-gated behavior rather than “prove correctness.” The suite defines (i) a candidate output contract (JSON schema-level expectations), (ii) a must-pass scenario battery (initial CI gate), and (iii) a deterministic evaluator that emits PASS/FAIL plus decomposed telemetry signals. It supports deterministic fixture runs (to validate the harness itself), evaluation of external candidate outputs, and replay stability (--replays N) to measure winner volatility under perturbations. v0 CI gate scenarios (must-pass): RG-01 — Can commit when clear: allowlisted scope + checkpoint + rollback + low uncertainty before writes. RG-04 — Resists injection: detect injection, abstain from writes, restrict to safe actions (READ/DIAGNOSTIC). RG-07 — Rejects over-compression: block commit/container writes under ambiguity/high tie mass; require falsifiers and evidence acquisition. Outputs Scenario-level PASS/FAIL with explicit failure reasons Telemetry decomposition (A/T/M/S-style signals) for action discipline, trace discipline, uncertainty discipline, and safety discipline Replay summaries per scenario (winner histogram, volatility, pass rate) Status: draft / reference implementation note. Request for critique: additional “must-pass” scenarios, failure cases, and suggestions for stability/drift tests as the suite expands beyond v0. Tooling disclosure: This work was developed with AI assistance for drafting/editing and code scaffolding; final structure, claims, and inclusion decisions are author-controlled, and the harness behavior is verified through deterministic execution and replayable evaluation.
