Effects of Caffeine on Resting-State and Task-related BOLD fMRI: A Systematic Review
Abstract
This study is a systematic review of published interventional studies investigating the effects of acute caffeine administration on resting-state and task-related BOLD fMRI measures in healthy adults. The objective is to systematically summarize the changes observed in BOLD fMRI measures during resting state and during visual stimulation and working memory tasks following caffeine administration compared with control conditions, including the brain regions or large-scale functional networks involved, the direction and magnitude of reported effects, and their neurophysiological interpretations.
