Abstract

Dry socket is a common postoperative complication following tooth extraction, associated with significant pain and delayed healing, and various preventive and therapeutic approaches have been proposed. Ozone therapy has been increasingly investigated in this context due to its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and potential healing properties; however, available clinical evidence appears heterogeneous and fragmented. This research project consists of a systematic review aiming to critically evaluate the available clinical evidence on the effectiveness of ozone as a preventive and therapeutic agent for dry socket, compared to other conventional treatments or placebo. The expected outcome of this review is a comprehensive and critical overview of the current evidence on ozone therapy for dry socket, highlighting potential benefits, limitations, sources of heterogeneity, and gaps in the literature to inform clinical practice and guide future research.
