Abstract

This registration outlines the protocol for a scoping review that aims to describe available evidence on the behaviour, attitudes, knowledge, and public perceptions of mRNA therapeutic technologies. The review will focus on peer-reviewed studies that include the perspectives of people eligible for mRNA vaccines, including: the general public and various subpopulations. Existing theories and frameworks linked to understanding attitudes, perceptions, and behaviours around mRNA technologies, including vaccines, will be applied when evaluating the literature. Studies published in academic journals (extracted from MEDLINE and Web of Science) in English from 2020 onward, including non-medical peer-reviewed journals, will be identified and analyzed by three independent reviewers. The review will follow PRISMA guidelines and focus on qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods studies. As mRNA technology continues to advance, strengthening public understanding of these innovations is essential to realizing their full potential to protect and promote the health of individuals and populations.
