From stem cells to stem cell-free therapies: An umbrella review of regenerative approaches in wound healing
Abstract
This project contains the protocol, data extraction materials, and analytic outputs for an umbrella review synthesizing evidence from systematic reviews and meta-analyses on regenerative approaches for skin wound healing. The review evaluates both stem cell–based therapies (including autologous skin cell suspensions, mesenchymal stem/stromal cells, and biologic skin substitutes) and stem cell-free strategies, particularly mesenchymal stem cell–derived extracellular vesicles. Methodological quality is assessed using AMSTAR-2, and overlap of primary studies across included meta-analyses is quantified using the Corrected Covered Area (CCA). The project aims to provide a high-level, methodologically rigorous synthesis to inform clinical practice, translational research, and policy development in regenerative wound management.
