A Scoping Review of Factors Influencing Secondary Diabetes in Child and Adolescent Cancer Survivors
Abstract
Objective To conduct a systematic review on the influencing factors of secondary diabetes in childhood and adolescent cancer survivors, with the aim of providing references for the construction of targeted intervention strategies and long-term management guidelines. Methods:Based on the review guidelines of the Joanna Briggs Institute in Australia as the methodological framework, systematic searches were conducted in Web of Science, PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, PsycINFO, CNKI, Wanfang Database, VIP Database, and China Biomedical Literature Service System for relevant studies. The search period was from the establishment of the databases to September 22, 2025. The literature was screened according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and data were extracted and summarized. Results A total of 11 studies were included. The influencing factors can be classified into four aspects: treatment-related factors, cancer-related factors, physiological and endocrine-related factors, and social demographic factors. Conclusion This study reveals the multiple influencing factors of secondary diabetes in childhood and adolescent cancer survivors, emphasizing the importance of long-term dynamic monitoring and individualized intervention for this population. Currently, there is a lack of large-scale prospective follow-up studies for this population in China, and the risk assessment tools and intervention plans that are in line with the medical and cultural background of our country also need to be improved. It is recommended to conduct multi-center collaborative research in the future, build and validate risk prediction models applicable to the Chinese population, and formulate stratified and dynamic long-term health management strategies, thereby providing solid evidence-based basis for the scientific screening, prevention, and management of secondary diabetes in this population.
