Abstract

This registration documents Premature Coherence as Systemic Risk, a structural analysis of how meaning-bearing systems can enter conditions of apparent stability that conceal the loss of semantic resolution. The work formalizes premature coherence as a systemic risk arising when alignment, consistency, or symbolic closure emerges before a system has accumulated sufficient differentiation, variation, or interpretive capacity. The paper treats coherence not as a neutral or inherently desirable property, but as a temporally sensitive structural force. When coherence arrives early, it compresses semantic space, collapses distinctions, and forecloses future interpretive paths. Under such conditions, systems appear aligned and stable precisely because unresolved tensions have been structurally eliminated rather than resolved. This project situates premature coherence within a broader structural ecology that includes semantic curvature, boundary failure, proxy substitution, and irreversibility conditions. It emphasizes that premature coherence does not require error, bias, manipulation, or bad faith. Instead, it emerges naturally under pressures for decisiveness, efficiency, consistency, and accelerated coordination—pressures that are intensified in AI-mediated and large-scale generative environments. The analysis is intentionally non-prescriptive. No governance reforms, mitigation strategies, diagnostic tools, or corrective procedures are proposed. The contribution of this registration is conceptual and structural: to name premature coherence as a distinct risk condition and to clarify how systems can become confident, coherent, and operationally successful while simultaneously losing the capacity for semantic resolution and long-term adaptability. This description reflects an open-ended theoretical articulation rather than a finalized or closed framework. The concepts documented here may be extended, intersected, or refined in future work within the Meta-Writing Ecology. Meta-Writing Ecology: metawritingecology.org
