Abstract

The integration of AI applications into clinical workflows has the potential to alleviate nurses’ workload, thereby freeing resources for patient-centered care. Therefore, comprehensive AI competencies are required. It remains unclear which specific skills this encompasses and whether they are already included in academic curricula or provided through hospital-based training. The purpose of this scoping review is to show, which care-related AI competencies for nurses in hospital-based adult inpatient care can be identified based on the current scientific literature, and to what extent these competencies can be mapped to specific care activities in Germany. Screening will be supported by the ASReview software and conducted in accordance with the SAFE procedure described by Boetje and van de Schoot (2024), in order to maximize screening efficiency while minimizing the risk of missing relevant studies. We expect to identify several articles addressing AI competencies for healthcare professionals in general and/or digital health competencies that are only conceptually related to AI-specific competencies. Furthermore, it is likely that no studies will be found that explicitly focus on AI competencies for nursing professionals in Germany.
