Current use of laparoscopy in canine urogenital disorders: a scoping review of the literature (2000 – 2025)
Abstract
Laparoscopy is an established minimally invasive technique in canine surgery, widely used for diagnosing and treating a wide range of urogenital disorders. Compared to open approaches, it offers less postoperative pain, more rapid recovery, and fewer complications. Even though previous reviews have dealt with specific procedures only, no comprehensive scoping review has synthesized the indications, techniques, and outcomes of laparoscopic urogenital interventions in dogs. This protocol consequently intends to map and update the current use of laparoscopy in this setting between 2000 and 2025, reporting trends, evidence gaps, and priorities for future research.
