Redefining medical training in pain through artificial intelligence: a comprehensive review
Abstract
Pain, in its acute, chronic, and cancer-related manifestations, is a major determinant of disability, suffering, and healthcare utilization worldwide (1,2). Its impact extends beyond the individual patient's experience, involving economic costs, functional impairment, caregiver burden, and profound social consequences. In this context, the World Health Organization has recognized pain, particularly chronic low back pain, as a global public health priority and has recently published clinical guidelines emphasizing the need for standardized, evidence-based, and person-centered care (3). Therefore, medical training in pain management cannot be considered an accessory component of the curriculum, but rather a fundamental pillar of quality and safety of care in all healthcare systems.
