Abstract

This study therefore aims to evaluate the specific effects of menopausal status in terms of motivational and behavioral changes in women. To do so, we test whether women’s Fundamental Social Motives vary as a function of their menopausal status. In other words, we aim to determine whether, all else being equal, menopause is associated with lower scores in motives such as Mate Seeking, Mate Retention-General, Mate Retention-Breakup Concern, Kin Care, and Affiliation (driven by a strong motivation for Independence but low Group affiliation and low Exclusion concern). Likewise, we test whether menopause predicts higher scores in Status motives.
