Abstract

Skin health is an important yet often overlooked aspect of child health promotion, particularly in rural and underserved communities where access to dermatologic care and preventive education is limited. Schools provide an effective setting for health promotion, but dermatology-focused prevention programs are rarely the primary focus of school-based initiatives. This project aims to conduct a scoping review to map and summarize preventive dermatology programs implemented in rural schools worldwide. The review will examine program types, delivery methods, target populations, and reported outcomes related to knowledge, behaviors, and skin health. It will also explore implementation factors such as community engagement, cultural responsiveness, and sustainability. The expected outcomes include identifying effective program components, common implementation challenges, and gaps in the existing literature. Findings from this review will inform future program development, research, and policy efforts, ultimately supporting improved skin health and preventive care for children in rural and underserved communities.
