AS FORMAS DE MANIFESTAÇÃO DO AUTORITARISMO NO BRASIL ATUAL: PROTOCOLO DE REVISÃO DE ESCOPO
Abstract
This scoping review protocol is part of a broader doctoral project that investigates how Brazilian law students from a capital city in the Legal Amazon develop dispositions that are either consonant or dissonant with the constitutional axiology established by the 1988 Federal Constitution. Within this larger research design, the present protocol focuses specifically on authoritarianism as one of the three analytical dimensions of the PAI scale (punitivism, authoritarianism, and intolerance), an instrument inspired in general terms by Adorno and colleagues’ studies on the authoritarian personality. The review aims to map how authoritarianism has been conceptualized, described, and identified in recent Brazilian academic production, especially in master’s dissertations and doctoral theses defended between 2021 and 2025. For the purposes of this study, authoritarianism is understood as a set of dispositions, practices, discourses, and socio-political rationalities marked by the valorization of vertical authority, the legitimation of obedience and hierarchy, the restriction of dissent and pluralism, tolerance for concentration of power, and the weakening of institutional mediations proper to the democratic rule of law. The review will focus on manifestations of authoritarianism in Brazilian society, considering symbolic, discursive, and material dimensions across political, institutional, cultural, religious, media, and everyday contexts. The protocol follows the Joanna Briggs Institute methodological guidance for scoping reviews and adopts the PCC framework (Population, Concept, Context). Eligible sources will include Brazilian master’s dissertations and doctoral theses available in the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD). Data will be extracted and analyzed descriptively and qualitatively in order to identify conceptual categories, recurring contexts, and forms of manifestation of authoritarianism. The findings are expected to support the construction of the authoritarianism dimension of the PAI psychometric scale and to contribute to the broader academic debate on authoritarianism in contemporary Brazil.
