Occupational Interests and Interest Fit
Abstract
This study explores whether occupational interests and interest fit differ between autistic and neurotypical employees and whether commonly used interest frameworks function equivalently across groups. The study tests the measurement invariance of occupational interests, examines group differences in RIASEC interest profiles, and investigates indirect pathways linking autism to interest fit through perceived employment alternatives, unmet expectations, and the importance placed on fit. Finally, the study assesses whether the consequences of interest fit for burnout, turnover intentions, motivation, and performance vary by neurotype.
