Mobile Health Applications as a Tool for Managing Atopic Dermatitis: A Scoping Review
Abstract
This scoping review aims to systematically map the current landscape of smartphone-based mobile health (mHealth) applications designed for the management of atopic dermatitis (AD). As digital health tools proliferate, there is a significant need to categorize their functionalities—such as symptom tracking, photo documentation, and teledermatology—and to evaluate their reported impacts on treatment adherence, flare prevention, and clinical outcomes. Following the PRISMA-ScR (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews) and JBI methodological frameworks, this study will identify the characteristics of existing apps, assess their usability and implementation challenges, and highlight critical gaps in the evidence base. The expected outcome is a comprehensive evidence map that will inform clinicians, app developers, and researchers on the effectiveness and future priorities of digital interventions in dermatology.
