Abstract

This project is a systematic review and meta-analysis examining the impact of uncertainty communication on trust in its sources. We provide the first meta-analytic estimate of the overall effect of uncertainty communication on trust in the source, relative to no uncertainty communication. In addition, we seek to identify sources of heterogeneity in the literature. Specifically, we examine how uncertainty communication and trust have been operationalized across studies by analysing the original stimulus materials and conducting subgroup analyses to assess whether variations in operationalization account for differences in observed effects. Moreover, we synthesize moderating effects reported by the included studies themselves.
