Functional nanoparticle-modified resin infiltrants in minimally invasive dentistry: a scoping review protocol
Abstract
Abstract Background: The objective of this scoping review is to map and synthesize the available scientific evidence on odontological resin infiltrants modified with functional nanoparticles. Methods: This scoping review will be conducted in accordance with the methodological guidance of the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) for evidence synthesis and reported following the PRISMA-ScR recommendations. A comprehensive literature search will be performed in electronic databases relevant to dentistry, biomaterials, and nanotechnology, including MEDLINE (via PubMed), Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library. In addition, a complementary search will be conducted in Google Scholar to identify potentially relevant studies and grey literature not indexed in traditional bibliographic databases. The search strategy will use the terms “nanoparticle” and “resin infiltrant,” combined with Boolean operators (AND/OR) and their respective synonyms. Study selection and data extraction will be performed independently by two reviewers. Extracted data will be synthesized and presented in a narrative format. Conclusion: This scoping review will provide a comprehensive overview of the current evidence on nanoparticle-modified resin infiltrants, identifying research trends, knowledge gaps, and potential clinical and material science implications. The findings are expected to support future experimental research and guide the development of advanced resin infiltrant formulations in dentistry.
