D’WANDER PESTS: THE WAVE-ACTIVATED NON-TOXIC DEVICE FOR EFFECTIVE REPULSION AGAINST PESTS
Abstract
Invasive agricultural pests are dead alarm to global food security, causing economic loses and environmental destruction. The aim of this study was to test the feasibility of using a low-cost solar-powered ultrasonic pest repeller entitled D’WANDER Pests (Wave Activated Non-Toxic Device for Effective Repulsion against Pests) as an eco-friendly substitute for chemical pesticides. D’WANDER Pests was developed to act at particular ultrasonic frequencies, allowing it to target invasive pests while preserving beneficial organisms. At an estimated production cost of D’WANDER Pests at 600 pesos, it becomes an economically viable solution for farmers, especially in local areas. While physical testing was not carried out, this study offered extensive theoretical support and existing ultrasonic pest control and related literature. Future studies ought to take care of the construct need of the prototype, fine tuning option of frequencies, doing impact studies in the region, and deciding how to incorporate the device into the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) system. If more advanced research and development is carried out, D’WANDER Pests could become an environmentally friendly pest management solution for agri-modern society.
