Characteristics and Implementation Elements of Training Programs for Older Volunteers in Health and Community Care: A Scoping Review
Abstract
Against the backdrop of an aging society and professional workforce shortages, older volunteers (peer leaders) are increasingly mobilized to deliver community-based health interventions. However, the training protocols required to equip these laypersons with the necessary competencies remain heterogeneous and under-synthesized. This scoping review aims to systematically map the extent, range, and nature of training programs for older peer volunteers in health and social care settings. Specifically, the review will characterize training designs (format, dosage), identify pedagogical strategies tailored to older learners (e.g., experiential learning, role-play), and categorize content domains into knowledge, general skills, and specific intervention skills.
