Abstract

Adolescents in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) are experiencing steady growth and must be recognized as critical for the future. This must include empowering them with the right health opportunities, education, and skills development to make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing. The purpose of this scoping review is to understand the concept of enabling environments and its application in adolescent health and wellbeing programming in sub-Saharan Africa. The following questions will be answered in the review: 1. What are the different definitions and characteristics of enabling environments in adolescent health interventions? 2. What are the barriers and facilitators experienced in developing effective enabling environments for adolescent health interventions? 3. What outcomes have been observed from adolescent health interventions regarding the use of enabling environments? 4. How do different settings (e.g., schools, communities, healthcare facilities) influence the success of adolescent health interventions? 5. What gaps exist in the current literature regarding enabling environments for adolescent health interventions, and what areas require further research?
