Emergence Angle and Emergence Profile in Implant-Supported Restorations: A Scoping Review
Abstract
Prosthodontic design plays a crucial role in ensuring the long-term success and biological stability of implant-supported restorations. If designed incorrectly emergence angle and emergence profile of an implant-supported restoration can compromise peri-implant tissue health and ultimately reduce the long-term success of implant prosthodontic treatment. Generative design is a rapidly evolving, but still relatively underexplored, algorithm-driven approach that supports engineering innovation and design optimization. This approach makes it possible to automatically generate and assess multiple design variants that meet user-defined performance requirements. Before using generative design, it is important to identify the key parameters that guide the optimization process and ultimately determine the final geometry of the component such as hybrid implant abutment. A comprehensive literature search was performed in the PubMed and Scopus databases to identify studies published up to December 1, 2025. Studies focusing on the emergence angle and emergence profile of implant-supported restorations were selected based on inclusion criteria. A total of 17 studies fulfilled criteria and were included in the final analysis. The reviewed studies indicate that the optimal emergence angle remains debated in the scientific literature, although aiming for an angle
