Abstract

Writing-side outputs of the FRIEND feasibility RCT (de Blauwe & Fidalgo, 2026, University of East London) comparing Nonviolent Communication (NVC) versus a mindfulness body-scan primer in zero-history stranger dyads. N = 30 in 15 dyads. Pre-registered (AsPredicted #265934). Ethics UEL/2026/AGAF. Holds the RSOS submission manuscript, EdArXiv preprint, UEL postgraduate thesis version, master appendix (31 appendices), and the appendix-by-appendix index. Primary outcome: DESI-14 v5.1, co-developed inside this study and the direct ancestor of DESI-18. Headline finding: mindfulness arm produced a large wellbeing gain (WEMWBS, r = .82) but no interpersonal closeness gain (IOS, non-significant); NVC arm produced stronger effects on dyadic emotional safety and a vocabulary-as-bridge qualitative theme.
