Foreign interference narrative and public support for protest
Abstract
The research question is whether the use of foreign interference claims helps authoritarian regimes to de-legitimize popular protests and justify their repression. To answer this question, I use a vignette survey experiment in China to test the impact of foreign interference narratives on various public responses to popular protests. I also test when such a narrative is the most effective.
