Abstract

On 11 August 2025, members of the Interjurisdictional Workforce Group from South Australia, Canberra, Victoria and Western Australia facilitated a workshop at the National Allied Health Conference. Titled Redefining Roles: The Impact of Advanced Practice in Australian Healthcare. There were 38 attendees representing the diverse allied health workforce including health professionals working in clinical practice, education, research, leadership and management roles. Workshop attendees were from the ACT, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, Western Australia, and the Commonwealth working across government, private sector, and professional associations. The workshop guided participants through the current health workforce landscape and highlighted a range of advanced practice models in allied health. These models were explored through practical examples, reflective discussions, and group activities aimed at developing shared themes to guidequestions and principles of advanced practice. The workshop also explored the importance of understanding, measuring, and communicating the value of advanced practice roles and evaluating their impact, supported by real-world examples.
