Survey of the most cited articles on gender equity in dentistry — a bibliometric study using conventional and alternative metrics
Abstract
The present study proposes a bibliometric review of the scientific literature with the aim of evaluating the development and visibility of research on gender equity in dentistry. The research will be conducted through a survey of the most cited articles in the Scopus database, using both conventional metrics (such as number of citations) and alternative metrics, such as those provided by Altmetric, which consider the social and digital impact of studies. The analysis will include variables such as authorship, year of publication, corresponding author's country, journal, area of dentistry, study design, and average citations per year. It is expected to identify thematic trends, gender-related authorship patterns by gender, and possible discrepancies between the academic impact and social engagement of the articles. The results may provide input for editorial and institutional policies aimed at promoting gender equity in dentistry, broadening the understanding of how knowledge circulates and is valued inside and outside academia.
