Exogenous Testosterone and Hidradenitis Suppurativa: A Systematic Review
Abstract
Background: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease with suspected hormonal modulation. With the increasing use of exogenous testosterone for gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) and testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), questions have emerged regarding its potential association with HS onset and disease activity. Existing evidence is fragmented and largely descriptive. Objective: To systematically synthesize clinical evidence describing new-onset HS or changes in HS disease activity temporally associated with exogenous testosterone exposure
