A Systematic Review of The Relationship Between Type I Diabetes and Sleep in Children and Young People and Their Families.
Abstract
With this systematic review, we aim to examine the association between T1D and sleep in CYP with T1D, and their families (direct caregivers and siblings). To capture both measurable sleep variables (e.g., sleep architecture, sleep duration, insomnia symptoms, sleep quality, etc.) and the lived experiences of CYP and their families, the research questions are structured using the SPIDER framework (Sample, Phenomenon of Interest, Design, Evaluation, Research type; Cooke et al., 2012). - Sample (S): CYP (0-19 years) living with T1D, their direct caregivers, and their siblings. There are no age restrictions for caregivers and siblings. - Phenomenon of Interest (PI): The association between T1D and sleep. - Design (D): Any quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods designs that report sleep outcomes or experiences associated with T1D management and that falls within our inclusion criteria. - Evaluation (E): Objective and subjective sleep outcomes (including questionnaires and experiential accounts). - Research type (R): Mixed methods review.
