Artificial Intelligence in Health Promotion: Acceptance and Use by Nursing Professionals from a Salutogenesis Perspective
Abstract
Introduction: Health promotion is a paradigm that shifts the focus from the biomedical model to a holistic and participatory vision. Recently, the insertion of technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) has influenced this field, offering the potential to empower patients and strengthen "health assets" (resources that promote well-being). From the perspective of salutogenic theory, AI can contribute to the "sense of coherence," providing information that facilitates the understanding and management of health. Objective: To summarize the main uses of artificial intelligence in health promotion by nursing professionals, identifying its role in knowledge acquisition and the development of actions for users. Method: This is a scoping review conducted according to the methodology of the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI). Research Question: "How do nursing professionals use artificial intelligence for health promotion practice?". Eligibility Criteria: Qualitative, quantitative, mixed studies, reflections, guidelines, and manuals, without temporal restriction. Search Strategy: Conducted in three stages (February 2026) involving databases such as PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, CINAHL, LILACS, EMBASE, and Google Scholar. Controlled descriptors (DeCS/MeSH) and alternative terms related to AI, Nursing, and Health Promotion were used. Selection and Extraction: The results were imported into the Rayyan software. The selection (title and abstract) was performed blindly by three researchers, followed by full reading by two independent reviewers. Expected Results: It is expected to map how AI acts in the active construction of health, whether by mitigating diseases or reinforcing the capacity to mobilize internal and external resources for self-care. The findings will be presented via a PRISMA flowchart and a descriptive synoptic table.
