Abstract

Through our project we aim to create a better understanding of the factors which influence perception of potentially traumatic events. Although our study in focusing on psychology students who study within Queen's University Belfast, our study can be applied to wider populations and groups, thus creating a wider scope of understanding within the field of trauma perception. This project will help to: - highlight how personal experience and well-being shape trauma perception - Increase awareness on trauma perception which can be crucial in educational, clinical and support environments - Support future mental health research by identifying which factors need to be researched and understood more to enable the best support to be provided to victims of trauma. Our findings will significantly contribute to the research field on trauma perception by providing empirical evidence towards which factors meaningfully influence an individual's appraisals of traumatic events. Our research will be available to other researchers on the platform OSF.
