Separate the Art from the Artist? Goodreads Readers Did Not
Abstract
This project contains the source data and analysis files for the paper "Separate the Art from the Artist? Goodreads Readers Did Not." The study uses 8,253 star-rated Goodreads reviews of Outlive: The Science and Art of Longevity (Peter Attia, MD) as a quasi-natural experiment in reputational spillover. The focal event is January 30, 2026, when the U.S. Department of Justice released Epstein-related emails in which the author appeared. Mean ratings collapsed from 4.18 (pre-event) to 2.54 (post-event; Cohen's d = 1.716). The dataset includes original and revised review dates, enabling analysis of retroactive rating revision — reviews originally posted before the event that were subsequently downgraded after it. Files include raw review data, analysis code, and supplementary figures.
