Spent Oak Island: The French Naval System Behind the Legendary Mystery Author: Jerald Lee Harrah
Abstract
Oak Island has been the subject of centuries of speculation, with myths attributing hidden treasure to Templars, Vikings, or privateers. This paper presents evidence that Oak Island was never a treasure site but a fully engineered operational system designed by the French Navy in the late 17th century. Through historical analysis, topographical evaluation, and reconstruction of hydraulic and logistical systems, this study identifies nine interconnected components that demonstrate deliberate planning for maritime logistics, storage, and vessel management. The findings provide a comprehensive understanding of Oak Island’s historical function, debunk popular myths, and reframe the island as a strategic French naval installation rather than a treasure trap.
