The use of total intravenous anaesthesia for lower-segment Caesarean section: a scoping review
Abstract
there is increasing use and interest of TIVA in general anaesthesia due to significant improvements in PONV, intraoperative analgesia and environmental benefit; however this has not been translated to obstetric anaesthesia, particularly due to concern on how to perform a Rapid Sequence Induction since parturients are at higher risk of aspiration. There are no existing reviews on the use of TIVA in obstetric care. We are hence interested in performing a scoping review to understand the state of research on the subject to direct future systematic reviews and prospective trials. The aim is to map and summarise what is known from the literature about the use of total intravenous anaesthesia (TIVA) during lower-segment caesarean section (LSCS), including clinical contexts, protocols employed, outcomes reported, and knowledge gaps.
