Regular Breaks and Personnel Performance of Uganda Police Force, Mbale District, Uganda
Abstract
This study investigates the relationship between regular breaks and personnel performance among officers of the Uganda Police Force in Mbale District, Uganda. Using a correlational quantitative design and data from 86 officers across multiple policing units, the findings reveal a very strong positive and statistically significant relationship between regular breaks and performance (r = 0.865, p < 0.01). Regular rest periods were associated with improved focus, reduced fatigue, higher morale, and enhanced productivity, whereas insufficient breaks contributed to burnout and reduced operational efficiency. The study recommends institutionalizing structured break policies and wellness-support mechanisms to strengthen performance and officer well-being.
