Abstract

The target population for this study comprises maize (Zea mays L.) varieties subjected to screening for resistance to downy mildew, caused by the pathogen Peronospora sorghi. Downy mildew screening methodologies represent a critical area of research, as numerous studies conducted globally have explored the susceptibility and resistance of maize to this devastating disease using various experimental approaches. This literature review aims to systematically evaluate and synthesize the existing body of research on downy mildew screening methods, with the objective of identifying the most effective and successful techniques for assessing resistance in maize. By analyzing the strengths and limitations of each method, this review will provide insights into best practices for breeding programs aimed at enhancing downy mildew resistance in maize, ultimately contributing to improved crop yield and sustainability in agricultural systems.
