Data Donation Behavior in a Cross-Sectional Prob-Based Survey: Google Search and Spotify data collection
Abstract
This project investigates participation in a data donation study collecting data from Google Search and Spotify, linked to the 2024 German International Social Survey Programme (ISSP), a cross-sectional probability-based population survey. We investigate whether findings on differences in participation across individual characteristics of respondents based on online access panels or panel surveys are generalizable to cross-sectional prob-based population surveys. Which socio-demographics and political attitudes are associated with participation? Is the relationship between these factors and participation influenced by participants’ digital literacies and tech-related attitudes? We implemented an experimental split, in which 50% of the target sample received an invitation leading to a Google data donation task, whereas the other 50% were redirected to a Spotify data donation task. Does participation behavior differ by the platforms respondents are confronted with?
