REMOTE MONITORING TECHNOLOGIES FOR FALL DETECTION AND FALL RISK IN COMMUNITY-DWELLING OLDER ADULTS: A SCOPING REVIEW OF PERFORMANCE, USABILITY, AND IMPLEMENTATION BARRIERS
Abstract
This project proposes a scoping review aimed at mapping remote monitoring technologies—such as wearable sensors, non‑wearable sensors, and technology‑mediated care tools—used for fall detection and fall risk assessment in older adults living at home. The review will follow the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) methodology and adopt the PCC (Population, Concept, Context) framework to guide the research question. Empirical studies will be included without date restrictions and identified in Embase, CINAHL, Scopus, Web of Science, LILACS/BVS, IEEE Xplore, the Cochrane Library, and gray literature sources. Study selection will be conducted by two independent reviewers, with standardized data extraction and descriptive synthesis of the findings. Results will be reported according to the PRISMA‑ScR flow diagram, allowing the identification of knowledge gaps, implementation barriers, performance, and usability of these technologies in community settings. The findings are expected to inform public policies and strategies to promote healthy aging and the safe home‑dwelling of older adults.
