Abstract

The hypothesis of this survey is that household background demographics, consumption-saving behavior, and prior knowledge of the economy influence their macroeconomic expectations and reactions to central bank communications. Dependent variables of interest: Marginal propensity to consume; past year inflation expectations; past year unemployment expectations Participants will be assigned to a treatment or control group. The treatment group will receive a text with excerpts from the Federal Reserve Chairperson's speech after the most recent FOMC meeting. The survey will be offered to the first 600 individuals who agree to take it on the survey collection platform Prolific.
