Music Preference in the Digital Age: A Systematic Review of Platform Effects and Personality Differences
Abstract
This project presents an exploratory systematic review of research on music preference in the digital age, with particular attention to digital music platforms, and individual personality differences. As music engagement is increasingly shaped by platform-based algorithms, existing studies have investigated how these systems influence the formation and diversity of musical tastes, as well as how individual differences shape listening experiences. This review examines how digital music platforms are framed in relation to music taste, how personality traits are considered as potential moderating factors, and which methodological patterns and research gaps emerge in the current literature on music listening and preference. By synthesizing these findings, the project aims to identify implications for music education and informal music learning in algorithmically mediated environments.
