The Unified Protocol Modifies Maladaptive Beliefs About Emotions
Abstract
Tendencies to view emotions negatively maintain or worsen emotional disorders over time, underscoring their potential importance in psychotherapy. Modifying dysfunctional beliefs about emotions is a component of the Unified Protocol (UP; Barlow et al., 2017). But little research has investigated whether (and when) such beliefs shift in UP treatment in comparison to active control conditions. This investigation looked at how beliefs about emotions change in the UP group compared to Take Control, and at what point did these changes occur during treatment.
