Digital therapies in the health management of age-related sarcopenia:A scoping review
Abstract
Age-related sarcopenia is a prevalent geriatric condition characterized by progressive loss of muscle mass, strength, and physical function, leading to increased risks of falls, disability, and reduced quality of life. With global population aging, effective and sustainable strategies for sarcopenia management are urgently needed. Digital therapies, including mobile applications, wearable devices, telehealth platforms, and other technology-supported interventions, have been increasingly applied in health management and rehabilitation. These approaches offer opportunities for continuous monitoring, personalized interventions, and improved access to care for older adults. However, evidence on digital therapies for age-related sarcopenia remains fragmented, and a comprehensive overview is lacking. Therefore, this scoping review aims to map existing evidence on digital therapies in the health management of age-related sarcopenia, summarize intervention characteristics and outcomes, and identify research gaps to inform future practice and research.
