Abstract

Abstract Objective: This scoping review aims to describe the main orofacial characteristics found in patients with Prader-Willi Syndrome. Introduction: Patients with Prader Willi Syndrome are predisposed to oral diseases. Endocrine and behavioral disorders associated with this general systemic condition increase the risk of oral pathologies. Therefore, reviewing the main oral findings of these patients is important to clearly establish the diagnosis and need for treatment in this group of patients, with the aim of ensuring good oral health and quality of life. Inclusion criteria: We considered available literature that assessed orofacial findings in Prader-Willi Syndrome patients. Studies from any clinical setting were included, without restrictions of year or country. Studies carried out with children or adults with Prader-Willi Syndrome who used orthodontic and orthopaedic devices or underwent to facial surgery were excluded. Methods: This scoping review protocol was conducted following the JBI methodology and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) extensions for scoping reviews (PRISMA-ScR). The searches will be performed in the following databases: PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Embase, and LILACS. In addition, searches in the grey literature will be developed in Google scholar. Studies evaluating orofacial characteristics of patients with Prader Willi syndrome will be included. Three independent reviewers will assess the eligible citations after searches. The results will be analyzed and reported using narrative text and tables accompanying a descriptive summary.
