Non-technical innovations within the nursing field in adult oncology: a scoping review
Abstract
Introduction Innovation in oncology has developed rapidly over recent decades, mainly through technological and therapeutic advances. While these innovations have led to major progress, they are also associated with high costs and may contribute to inequalities in access to care. In this context, innovation cannot be considered solely from a technological perspective, but also through organizational and relational approaches. Nurses play a central role in these developments, particularly through the creation of practices and care models aimed at improving patient support. However, non-technical innovations within the nursing field in adult oncology remain poorly visible. Objectives This scoping review aims to map non-technical innovations within the nursing field reported in the international scientific literature concerning the care of adult patients with cancer. It also aims to describe their characteristics. Methods and analysis This study will be conducted in accordance with the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) methodology for scoping reviews and reported in line with the PRISMA-ScR guidelines. The review will be based on the Population–Concept–Context (PCC) framework. Primary research studies—quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods—published in peer-reviewed scientific journals will be included. Searches will be conducted in the MEDLINE (via PubMed), CINAHL (via EBSCOhost), and PsycINFO (via EBSCO) databases, with no time restrictions. Only articles published in French or English will be considered. Study selection and data extraction will be performed independently by two reviewers. Data will be analyzed descriptively. Ethics and dissemination No ethical approval is required for this study, as it is based exclusively on published data. The results of this scoping review may be disseminated through scientific communications and publications in peer-reviewed journals.
