Difficulty Adaption in Response to Feedback in ADHD
Abstract
This project intends to study how individuals with ADHD adjust their difficulty in a typing reinforcement learning task in response to prediction errors and feedback. Participants will complete a calibration phase which will tailor a prediction model to their individual skill. Then, participants will choose their difficulty every 10 trials [subblock], and receive points for correct responses that will eventually lead to bonus rewards at the end of the study. We will analyze ADHD and non-ADHD participants' difficulty adaptations (subblock n+1 - n) against the model-generated prediction errors. We hypothesize that people without ADHD will exhibit a positive linear relationship between difficulty adaptation and predictor errors, while ADHD participants will show little to no linear relationship, suggesting a deficit in utilizing reinforcement signals to adapt behaviors.
