A componente emocional da arquitetura (The Emotional Component of Architecture)
Abstract
Throughout this work, the theme of the architecture emotional component will be addressed, and various questions will be put into question about the importance of emotions and feelings in the individual, and especially in architecture itself. Considering its complexity, the topic will be approached from the perspective of several relevant and essential authors for its understanding. On the one hand, we have the classic and cartesian perspective that separates the mind from the physical body, and on the other, we have more current perspectives, mainly that of António Damásio, as well as other authors mentioned, who stand up for an inseparable unification between brain and body to form that we call the mind. This reference will be central to the entire study because it places the focus on a sensitive body, disregarded until then, of vital importance and impossible to separate, for the establishment of superior functions such as reason and thought. The body and brain as a whole, constantly exchanging information with each other, cannot function effectively without the other. The environment, the setting where life unfolds and of which architecture is a part, will certainly involve us in this totality, affecting and building what we are. Every day we are exposed to these stimuli, developing references through what is transmitted to us, and that is why we believe, and we see in the work of some architects, in this case Peter Zumthor, that the importance placed on these issues will be crucial and fundamental to develop a better architecture, more humanized and humanistic, more capable of bringing us together as a society, rescuing through the senses, memory and imagination, the best of us, which are emotions and feelings
