Exact‑Match Governance: How Indexing Friction Became the New Architecture of Disappearance
Abstract
This essay introduces the concept of Exact‑Match Governance, a newly observed platform behavior in which digital systems index content but restrict its discoverability to full‑title, exact‑match queries. Building on the author’s existing theoretical lineage—Quiet Governance, Systemic Erosion Theory, Infrastructural Exposure Theory, Slow Harm Theory, and Metadata Suppression & Stylometric Resistance—the essay argues that visibility is increasingly governed at the level of retrieval rather than publication. Through analysis of indexing lag, metadata hierarchies, and AI‑driven filtration, the work documents how minority scholarship and independent research are structurally deprioritized. The essay positions stylometric resistance and DOI‑anchored publishing as counter‑infrastructures capable of preserving visibility within increasingly selective search ecosystems.
