[IMPACT-EU] All roads lead to psychosocial care – Available psychosocial services for children and adolescents with cancer and their families across Europe: a scoping review
Abstract
Children and adolescents suffer from psychosocial consequences during and after cancer treatment, sometimes long-term. While the survival rate of paediatric cancer has reached about 80% on average in Europe, disparities between countries across Europe exist due to differing access to medication, clinical trials, and psychosocial care. Specifically, it is unknown how psychosocial consequences of paediatric cancer are addressed. This review aims to describe and map the available psychosocial services within Europe inside and outside of hospitals as well as barriers and facilitators for providing them. This will serve as a basis for a unified, evidence-based standard of psychosocial care for children and adolescents with cancer and their families. For this, a scoping review of published studies as well as grey literature will be conducted, with the data being types of and practices for psychosocial care for children and adolescents with cancer and their families across Europe. Narrative synthesis will be used to analyse data and results may be presented in text, with charts and graphs.
