Abstract

This project is a scoping review examining emotion coaching–based parenting interventions for children’s externalizing symptoms. The review will (1) map EC interventions targeting externalizing behavior in clinical or at‑risk samples, (2) evaluate whether EC is effective for trauma‑exposed children’s externalizing symptoms, and (3) compare effectiveness between trauma‑exposed and non–trauma‑specified samples, including parent outcomes and feasibility indicators such as attrition and fidelity. Expected outcomes include a synthesis of EC program components, patterns of effectiveness across populations, and identification of gaps to inform future trials and potential trauma‑adapted applications of EC.
