Staying in the Game: A Scoping Review of Football Injury Prevention
Abstract
This scoping review will map and synthesize the existing evidence on injury prevention strategies in football (soccer). It will summarize current interventions such as structured warm-up protocols, neuromuscular and strength training, proprioceptive exercises, and workload monitoring, and examine their effectiveness in reducing both acute and overuse injuries. The review will also identify key implementation factors (e.g., adherence, feasibility, and setting-specific barriers) across different populations, including youth, amateur, and elite players. Overall, this study will highlight evidence gaps and future research priorities to strengthen injury prevention practice in football.
